This runs the Intel 82546EB chipset. Is this supported? I haven’t found many applicable posts on the forums and the supported hardware list doesn’t include this chipset.
Is there any way that people can think of that I could get this to work?
Do you have up and running at least the two onboard ethernet ports?
It should work. I used many DL360 servers with MikroTik, never had any issues with integrated NICs.
However, I had different issues with add-on cards, starting from not recognizing it at all to lockups and random reboots.
If your onboard NICs are OK, simply change the add-on card
Ahh yes, I forgot to mention the ROS version. I am running 5.22, downloaded yesterday.
I have the two onboard NICs working, and worst comes to worst i have a small RB750 that I can use as other ethernet ports (VLANs on one of the inbuilt nics then broken out on the RB) but that’s not exactly a nice solution.
I’ll have a look at replacing the addon card, but it would’ve been nice to have it working. I got the server and add-on card for free you see!
I’ve gotta use this ROS router for an event I’m being contracted for on the 2nd of Jan, so I don’t have time to replace it now, but I thought I would ask to see if anyone had anything similar to this issue and how they resolved it.
Did you get them to boot from USB OK? I had to download a boot CD which chainloads to the USB! Not exactly my favourite solution but it works for a cheap, powerful router!
If you received the server for free, you for sure can invest a bit to buy at least a decent 2 or 4 port ethernet card
Unfortunately, not every NIC chipset is supported in ROS. But this is not such a problem as many of them are already supported. Your server should accept a wide range of these cards. So, the only true solution is to replace the cards. They are not so expensive at all.
Regarding USB boot, my answer is YES, i booted every server with zero problems from USB flash disk. Actually, this is the way I boot these servers as the integrated HDD controller is not recognized by MikroTik. I use the internal USB port which can be found if you remove the lid, as the USB flash is well protected this way. Be aware that not every USB flash is suitable for MikroTik installation! I had numerous problems with them, though each was working perfectly as USB disk in any other OS (windows, linux, does not matter). I guess the problem is simple - not all USB flash disks are manufactured with equal quality! Some of them are OK, some of them are not.
Where would the internal USB port be located in these servers? I cannot find one on my box. It is possible that it’s an older revision which wouldn’t include it though, which would be a pity!

According to the HP Warranty Check tool on their website, it is an “DL360R03 X3.06/533 1GB A/P” - Does this mean it is a DL360 G3? I can’t find any other mention of what generation it is on the box.
