X86 with 10Gbps NICs

Hi Guys,

I have done some searching and can’t find a definitive answer.

We need to build a Router that will have dual 10Gbps (Fibre) NICs.
We’re looking at the Dell R610s, 6 Core, 4Gb ram etc. As you may have guessed we’re expecting to shift some serious traffic.

Can anyone offer me any guidance on 10Gig NICs? I’ve seen www.microtikrouter.com have built a solution using them.

Any idea which models we should be looking at?

Thanks

You cannot go wrong with Intel x520 NIC’s

Dell will even be able to supply these in the R610’s and at a good price too.

No more than ± 1.3Gbps with x520 NICs (Dell 720) linked at 10G/Full.

I would LOVE to see long term traffic graphs of ANY Mikrotik device (x86 or CCR) pushing more than 3Gbps…

I’ve now invested significant money into a x86 box, as well as CCR1036-8G-2S+EM and saying I’m unimpressed is an understatement. Nevermind WHAT I do, these devices peak out at about 1Gbps to 1.3Gbps with virtually idle CPUs.
