Xiaomi mobile phone VPN to Mikrotik issue

Hi, I have Xiaomi Redmi 10S Android phone with MIUI 14.0.11 and Mikrotik RB4011 with latest RouterOS 7.20

For years I used VPN on my mobile phone for connecting to my home with vpn type IPSec Xauth PSK on mobile phone and configuration on Mikrotik that supports it. And everything worked and still works. But, after some update on mobile phone, I cannot create new VPN with same type, now on mobile phone there are only 3 types of VPN that I can choose: 1. IKEv2/IPSec MSCHAPv2, 2. IKEv2/IPSec PSK and 3. IKEv2/IPSec RSA

Now, I can’t configure Mikrotik to work with any of theese 3 types of VPN. I have also other Samsung mobile phone which works OK with IKEv2/IPSec PSK, but Xiaomi don’t.

I tried also StrongSwan VPN app but also no luck. So now I have Xiaomi phone that have old VPN configuration which I can’t copy for other site, and also if I delete it I won’t be able to recreate it.

Is there any issue with Xiaomi/MIUI and Mikrotik that prevents VPN?

In attach there is IPsec debug logs for Xiaomi trying to connect with IKEv2/IPSec PSK.

Why not use Wireguard to connect to your router...........

Wireguard is not working as it should. On mobile phone it connects, it shows that is connected but there is no traffic. Then sometimes traffic is going OK but it is slow…then when I disconnect and connect again there is no traffic at all…so it is unreliable. Even with Mikrotik to Mikrotik, it is not working stable and it is not something that I find reliable.

As I have optic internet with 300Mbit speed, so far Wireguard is the worst option, unusable.

But this is another story and I would not go there…i preffer to create native VPN that mobile phone supports.

Oh so this isnt a smart phone, its some sort of other device?
