Do you mean it seriously? Don't you see the contradictions you wrote?

It's a legitimate question, what should be installed and enabled by default. Current default config doesn't exactly fit my preferences either. But it's just few clicks to change it. And I guess there's some reason why MikroTik sets it up like this, so there are probably people who like it this way. But there's no way how to please everyone anyway.

>samba
Usb or sata, both are slow because the Mips architecture.
Use cifs or transfer over ssh.
Also, a router isn't a NAS... is to get small files faster.

>bundle package "routeros"
I agree that bundle is bad, since is a "bloatware" to most non-enterprise users.
How to solve? Netinstall it! Install the ROS through of all-packages.zip and select what you need.

>printing support
It's a good to have, but yet isn't supported.

>There must be a lite version. Or maybe an ISP version and home version. Or something.
Neither Cisc0, Huaw31, *-L1nk, *wrt, Asu5 and Netg3ar have a version like that you said that I remember.

In my concept, you need to know the tricks to handle with each network brand and enjoy better that device.
Or stay mad with the brand and try to use a new brand to you.
If you don't liked that, change it! :D

>Yes you proves my point - RouterOS doesn't need a useless huge (~2,5MB?) samba!
Maybe less than 1MB the binary file (or more as you said), but is part of system package... so can't be deleted from OS.

>I imagine that to be terribly annoying
I agree, someone projected to be that form as a bundle. Now, why need to be such? I guess that is planned to be used in houses than business, since the sysadmin have to do the heavy work to ajust as need.

>It is just sad that Mikrotik has no clue what sysadmins need.
Or their main target isn't more sysadmin and come back to above question.

>OpenWRT I can use the SDK and built my own image
Opensource and they are cool to provide a SDK, different from enterprise brands. If they (brands) had a system that you can generate a image with own needs like the dead Suse Studio and *wrt SDK, that would be great.

Every product has it's pro's and cons...
It's simple, if you don't like a product then don't buy or use it...
One should adore MikroTIK for their products against these prices...

What?

The packages can be disabled easily, most even uninstalled. I'd rather have them disabled than have to go to the internet every time I want to deploy X feature an download it.

There are possible use cases for packages such as mpls and hotspot in an SXT, just because you don't need it doesn't make it wrong.

If you don't use a feature, it will not take up resources. Most packages can be disabled or removed. What stops you from installing SYSTEM+WIRELESS?
Or you haven't used RouterOS in such way yet?

I see you haven't configured RouterOS.

Yes, it is like distributing tampons to the whole battalion, just because there are 3 women in it.
I manage thousands of routeros devices for end users, usually into the teens per day so I think I know where System > Packages is located and what it does.
I don't understand your second statement? Are you likening yourself to a tampon?

Just to add: no need to netinstall if someone wants to get rid of the bundled packages. Just put there selected individual packages you need of other version and reboot or downgrade accordingly.

Anyway I am maybe the oldest veteran of war against the default package bundle here. If anyone would like to know that.

PSA: I just learned if you click on a username, you can add them as a foe, which is basically an ignore button. Pretty nice feature for Kackele.
