VPP for Mikrotik?

Thu Aug 16, 2018 8:37 pm

Hi

I recently read, that pfSense threw away their planned roadmaps for future improvements. They drop FreeBSD and go Linux.

Cisco made their VPP go public, -I had never heard of it before. It's a software that makes a Linux kernel go crazy in networking performance.

pfSense expects up to 100GB IPSec throughput, full routing and all features on a normal Intel CPU running Linux.

VPP is a bomb in networking, I hope Mikrotik is on the track. Things gonna change soon.

Just for fun, I'm gonna play with this, a solid pc, good network cards, Linux, VPP and FRR ... voila, a 100GB router?

I have been following VPP for 3 or so years now. It is impressive, but very limited.

I think OpenFastPath/OpenDataPlane are better technologies for Mikrotik to persue.
