Kernel panic with reboot on RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN

Wed May 19, 2021 2:15 pm

Just putting here for the sake of reporting. I upgraded to v7.1beta6 today on my RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN and I'm now getting a kernel panic every time that I try to reboot.

1. Version number (if the issue is upgrade related, specify which version was installed before as well): v7.1beta6, upgraded from v7.1beta5. RouterBOOT firmware version is 7.1beta6
2. Router's model: RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN
3. Steps to reproduce the issue:
/system/reboot
4. Configuration export (use '/export hide-sensitive' command): Available upon private request from MikroTik
5. Any additional information that would help troubleshoot the issue (screenshots, debug logs, etc.):

Re: Kernel panic with reboot on RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN

Thu May 20, 2021 2:52 am

Just putting here for the sake of reporting. I upgraded to v7.1beta6 today on my RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN and I'm now getting a kernel panic every time that I try to reboot.
I had a similar issue and traced the cause to my OSPF configuration. Any OSPFv3 configuration especially causes the router to severely malfunction in beta6. I would try removing any BGP/OSPF configuration before upgrading, just to be safe.

Interesting. I had no OSPF or OSPFv3 config at the time at all, but I do have BGP. I might factory default it tonight and test but that feels like effort :P

In all honesty, each time I upgrade to a new v7beta I reset to no factory reconfiguration and paste in the old .rsc from the previous version a section at a time. I only do inplace upgrades on my CAPs which have a much simpler configuration. MikroTik is still changing their command syntax, especially in the routing protocols, and they are not yet doing auto conversion of the old syntax to the new syntax from one beta to the next. So you can end up encountering weird bugs/crashes if you have config lines where they used one syntax in the old version and a different syntax in the new version, and now some required attribute may be missing and so they can malfunction in unpredictable ways, since typically if a config statement is missing a required value you can't add it in the first place. You can end up with crashes or other problems as a result of that, rather than as a result of bugs in the new beta.
