Migrated home network from 6.48.3 to 7.1RC1 to 7.1RC2

Sun Aug 29, 2021 11:05 pm

Hi folks,

I have a CHR lab (OSPF,BGP,LxVPN) with ROS6 and another one with ROS7 copied from ROS6. I tested ROS7 for a long time on the CHR lab but OSPF, BGP and MPLS does not working as expected.
Then I saw 7.1RC1 is out and RB4011s get HW offloading with vlan filtering, so I trapped, I feeled to must try it out. I expected a lot of bugs and instability like in CHR lab, but as I migrated my devices one-by-one to ROS7 I surprisingly experienced, there is no instability.

Some of devices are upgraded with config reset and reconfiguring, some are upgraded without config reset. I dropped BGP config from my RB4011 as I don't really need it and replaced with RIPv2. MPLS LDP is simply not working over L2TPv2/PPP and if I creating a vpls interface my RB4011 crashing into reboot. LDP neigbourship is UP but FW table is empty and mappings are inactive.
So simple functions works stable, for example: switching, bridgeing, IPv4 routing, firewalling, PPPoE and L2TP client, IPSec, RIPv2, WiFi and WDS with/without vlan tagging.
My SXT5ac upgraded with netinstall as a normal upgrade complained there is no enough free space. After upgraded it has only 2224kiB free space.

I hope ROS7 will be partitioned by functions like ROS6 to conserve flash space, or MTik find out a more space efficient solution to hold all feature on flash even if it will not used ever.

Cheers,

Even worse shipping ath10k devices with only 128MB RAM and then excluding those from the new WiFi drivers.

How about make kernel & some driver opensource thus lets community involved.
MTK, Broadcom & Tile may won't like it tho, but afaik Qualcomm is an exceptions.
Keep GUI related as proprietary, as its contain big secrets.

I hacked my RB433AH 10-15 years ago with openwrt and other more perverted methods to gets proper WiFi at my home but I don't have such time anymore :-)
If I would like to buy cheap devices for hacking then I would searching on other vendors palette which are popular for hackers.

I seemlessly upgraded my home devices to ROSv7.1RC2 with the regular method.
