EIGRP

Mon Aug 30, 2021 5:39 am

Having EIGRP as a feature in v7 would be a killer feature, as it has more efficient and fast convergence compared to OSPF. And, it's not a proprietary protocol any more, so there's no barriers to implementing it. Does anyone else think it should be added?

Mikrotik simply will not implement it. No use explaining it's benefits. They even don't have IS-IS.

Most people are very short sighted on EIGRP and insist OSPF is a flawlessly optimal protocol. I've had this discussion on this forum and others, it rarely leads anywhere productive. Yet EIGRP absolutely would be a phenomenally better protocol in the WISP world, as it doesn't have the overly restrictive (yes, restrictive. No, not optimal) design philosophy which just does not marry up with many real world networks and their organic growth patterns.
Starting work on IS-IS is a step in the right direction, and probably the better one to take if they're only going to choose 1 protocol. Yet EIGRP is still a much more flexible and better suited protocol in many situations. Still, I highly doubt its ever going to happen
