Usage reports with MAC filtering

Thu Jun 23, 2016 10:40 pm

Hi Everyone,

We are trying to set up a Mikrotik as a Hotspot, we have the user Authentication working great.
On the network however are multiple other clients that have individual routers or firewalls configured which also require access to the internet.  These devices cannot use a username and password to authenticate,  We have tried using MAC filtering but the issue with that is that the usage is not monitored and cannot be viewed in the report.

Is there a way to have the devices authenticate without a username and password and still give us accurate usage for those devices?

Thank you,

I am thinking users connected through the other routers are NATted.

Do you need the hotspot on just the one Mikrotik?

More details are needed.

Thank You RCourtney,

Yes we need to run the hotspot on just the one Mikrotik RB1100
The users coming through the other routers are NATted
The Mikrotik connects to our Fibre link, the Network to the Mikrotik. LAN range 10.1.1.1/24
Public IPs on the WAN interface
The routers we need to trace usage for are sitting on the 10.1.1.0/24 LAN range
Hotspot is the same 10.1.1.0 network
Pull the usage reports out of the Radius running on the RB1100

The Mikrotik provides DHCP to the network.  Apart from my VOiP phones and the users we are trying to link all use the hotspot with user authentication.

As a workaround at the moment we have the MAC addresses set to bypass but this does not allow for the usage to be monitored. The main issue we have is that it is not on the usage report.

If you run a separate router without wireless and use MAC authentication on it, they would not need to enter user/pass. NATting on the router closest to fiberlink.
Then radius records should be gathered for reporting.  Haven't tried it but first thing that came to my mind.
