the limitations are only for active users. you can add any number of users, but only a limited amount will be able to log in.

level 4 limitation for PPPoE active users is : 200

but level4 limitation for UserManager active users is : 10

so you will need LEVEL6 license to remove limitation of 10 active users.

To own a Porche you first have to buy it!!

This is a great feature and I will gladly pay for it. You only really needs it when you have more users.

I am of the opinion that level 5 license should have the ability to login more active users than level 4 in User Manager just like in all other features. If level 4 is limited to 10 active users, then level 5 should have nothing less than 50 active users.

What do you think? Let the debate begin.

Currently there are no plans changing that. Usermanager is still in development, we are rewriting the GUI engine and adding more features.
When we will release v3.0 maybe will change the active user limitations.

Hi all

I have some comments regarding the level issue.

In the first place, I would rather have a seperate server (PC based) only doing authentication ie UserManager. This server should have the Level6 license installed. On your high sites, hotspots etc, you only need level4.

In the second place, UM is under development, and is offered free of charge. 10 users are more than enough to test with. If you need to implement it on more than 10 users, purchase a higher level of license. This will help MT make more money to invest more time in the development of UM, thus we all score. However, I do agree that level5 should have about 50 active clients too.

I have setup several hotspots using UM and MT Hotspot. Luckilly we still haven't run into problems where there are more than 10 clients connected at a single time, but it will most definatelly happen. Espesially if you have more hotspot AP's. Almost all the clients I have setup these hotspots for, will never have more than 30 clients at the same time, but they'll more than likely have more than 10 at a time. 50 is a good number for a L5 license.

I have to agree with Giepie here.
Whilst I also agree that the UM licenses should increase with the license levels, I think that if you are using UM in a serious way to run multiple hotspots or similar, then purchase a Level 6 license and put it with you back end infrastructure on a proper server. It's just unfortunate that we can't use RAID or anything yet, maybe V3 will address that one.
Unfortunately though, if you are serious then you would have more than one radius server, so you will probably need to buy 2. However, if you consider using VMWare or similar to host your environment, you can backup your VMWare image to another box in case of failure, then you just start it up and away you go.

Wow this is an old post, but hmm, 1000 concurrent users I would be using Freeradius with a separate SQL backend running on 2 boxes, usermanager is all on one box which limits performance a bit, 1000 concurrent users is pretty heavy though, I would look at a more commercial option to be honest

So you don't need to manage 1000 concurrent users then ?
If not then yes, probably, we run a couple of hundred users on a VM

pjulian

i really need to manage 1000 users... so it means that user manager is not good for my project....

i'll try it using free radius, on dedicated server .. thank..

i have hp wireless controller, and need external radius server .... freeradius will be good enought....

how safer is frerradius?

It's fine if you protect it, anyway you only need to run radius with private IP normally anyway.

Once radius system based on free radius is daloradius, not bad, you might want to have a look at that.
