user manager is just to manage hotspot users. it is a feature to improve your hotspot management, it does not replace hotspot.

first configure hotspot and test that it runs fine. then configure user manager. then set your hotspot to use radius for user management (radius = user manager). then start adding hotspot users in the user manager.

There is no RB500 user manager package (MIPS version), only for x86:

I would suggest using a PC Based MT Router on the back-end for one purpose only, USERMANAGER. If you really want, you could use the same MT for transparent proxy cacheing.

I'm not sure if it was intended, but I can see UM replacing seperate RADIUS servers for WISP's and Hotspots. It would also be nice if you could change the dictionary files so that eg normal ISP's could use it for xDSL authentication too.

how to set the UM with hotspot user list?

Sun Oct 01, 2006 7:53 am

user manager is just to manage hotspot users. it is a feature to improve your hotspot management, it does not replace hotspot.

first configure hotspot and test that it runs fine. then configure user manager. then set your hotspot to use radius for user management (radius = user manager). then start adding hotspot users in the user manager.
the case is..i've already list the user of my network in the hotspot>user before i used UM.

1. Now, how can i activate UM?
2. Is it automaticaly export user list i've already added in the hotspot>user?

that's for now..thanks for your attention :)

Warm Regards,

Hatur Nuhun mas Balimore.. :)

hmm..i guess i had to get a license first, coz when i try, it says 'limited session' something like that :) but 'neways thanks to Mr. Balimore for your attention..
1) add Router IP address and secret to 'Routers' menu in User Manager.
2) enable RADIUS client to communicate with User Manager server.
3) create users at 'Users' menu in User Manager.
4) force HotSpot to use RADIUS for AAA, 'ip hotspot profile set default user-radius=yes'. (Note, local database is consulted first, than remote RADIUS database).
User Manager contains many options, but there is described basic example, how to enable communication between HotSpot router and User Manager.
well, i'm a bit confuse with point #2..where do i set the Radius client? And how? is it in winbox/console? i can't find it there..or is it in the UM?

i will have the license ASAP, and tell you the later situation..
thank you..
