Cable Modem Public IP

Wed Nov 11, 2015 5:38 am

Greetings
I have a Cable Modem that i want to connect to a new mikrotik RB750.
I want to assign my dynamic public ip address to my Ethernet1 Interface (WAN Interface), it only gets 192.168.0.3 assigned via DHCP Client.

How can i assign that dynamic public ip on the mikrotik?

If i connect my cable modem to a netgear router and i go to web management interface and go to WAN Setup
i see my dynamic public ip 24.42.28.162 assigned to the wan interface.

You need to put the Cable modem in bridge mode (google it for your telco provider/cable modem model), then use either DHCP or PPPoE from the mikrotik to get the IP.

No need for PPPoE if the netgear is getting the ip by DHCP.

Just add a DHCP client on the Mikrotik WAN interface and you'll be set.
