Setup Pppoe over vlan 100 connection

Mon Nov 20, 2017 4:43 am

Hi there someone could help me to set up this configuration? My provider give me hybrid NBN with pppoe connection over wan vlan tagging vlan 100. It is possible to set it up trough winbox? Any help will really appreciate

Re: Setup Pppoe over vlan 100 connection

Certainly.

Add a vlan interface to your ISP-facing h/w interface (I guess ether1 or sfp1). Give it the vlan-id 100. Leave the rest on defaults.
Now add a PPPoE client to this vlan interface.
Add a dhcp client to the PPPoE interface.

Adjust your firewall filter and nat rules accordingly to the PPPoE interface.

Done.

Thank you Chris for quick reply. Unfortunately I don't know why the Pppoe doesn't connect. I created vlan set is 100 on the Ethernet port plugged in the NBN socket, I created the Pppoe client connect to the vlan int. I setup logging details but it doesn't connect.
I tried first with Windows Pppoe broadband wizzard and it works.
I am running routers from a VM in Ubuntu where both ethernet works.

Try it with use-service-tag=no
and please pastey our config into a code block - much easier to read.

I already tried to uncheck it. I'm trying to simulate the connection in VM before buy a mikrotik device. Did I set it up correctly as your suggestion?

Looking good so far.
I just noticed that your DHCP-client is assigned to vlan1, not to pppoe-out1 - probably the PPPoE client connects nicely and you don't see the results because you never get an address assigned.
And better hide your pppoe account from your config ;-)

Additionally, I strongly doubt that you should be using service tag on that vlan.

When I create DHCP client from IP menu in DHCP client setting doesn't let me choose Pppoe client only Eth ints and the vlan. Also in Pppoe status it try to dial but after it disconnect

Probably a stupid question:
is your hypervisor networking configured for having a trunk on your vNIC?

Sorry - you're right. this is done in the PPPoE client. My bad - not too familiar with those...

Thank you Chris for your help. Maybe I will get a mikrotik router rather than VM

Definitely the best choice.
And a 750Gr3 is cheap and fast - ideal for testing.

Hi Chris, do a bridge can help to link together Pppoe conn with vlan?

Hello,

No, you do not need to bridge VLAN interface and PPPoE client, because PPPoE client is "living" inside VLAN. Can you enable PPPoE debug and show us what gets logged? Also, if you do PPPoE scan from VLAN 100 interface, do you see any PPPoE server/BNG/BRASS/RADIUS/WhateverYourISPIsUsing

Definitely not. As blajah suggested, try a PPPoE Scan. if you see something, it's your config. If you don't see anything, it's most likely your hypervisor network config.
