ccr-1009 Kernel loading failed  [SOLVED]

Sun Feb 25, 2018 6:12 am

hello ccr users

I am a person who operates ccr device in Korea.
I had an embarrassing job on February 2, 2018,
I would like advice from an experienced ccr'man.

1) Overview
I lost 10ea ccr-1009 and 1ea ccr-1016 at the same time on 2018.02.02.
The ccr devices i have been running for a year or two have all been down at the same time with the same phenomenon.
There is no connection to the ccr devices afterwards.
I could not physically initialize my ccr devices but could not connect it.

2) What appears on the screen
When initializing by connecting an RS-232 cable,
The screen contents are as follows.
"
Ethernet link absent ---
trying bootp protocol --------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------- failed
kernel loading failed

RouterBOOT booter 3.33
CCR1009-7G-1C
CPU frequency: 1000 MHz
Memory size: 1024 MiB
NANO size: 128 MiB

Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup -
loading kernel ... kernel not found or data is corrupted
Please, check ethernet cable ...
"
3) Actions
(1) Device-specific initialization ---> Not accessible
(2) Replace PowerSupply -> No effect
(3) Replace all of them with alternative ccr device and analyze the cause

Look forward to your wise advice

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced such problems. This is very suspicious that you had so many devices going out of order at the same time. Are you the only administrator of these devices? Were they secured properly with changed username and password specified? Is it possible that there were some scheduled scripts running which could have performed something at the same time on all of the units and led to such problem?

Of course, it is possible, that there might have been some kind of software issue, but it is almost impossible that multiple devices at the same time crash with the same problem without human interaction. Which version of RouterOS was installed on these devices?

Strods,

Assuming that device could be hacked, please explain how kernel could be erased?

---> Thank you for your favor.
First, I will answer questions by 'Strods'.
1) There are multiple administrators for ccr-1009 devices,
but the devices with different management passwords are also hacked simultaneously.
2) CCR device spec
- board name; CCR1009-7G-1C
- ros version; 6.37.4 (bugfix)
- factory software; 6.37.1
- firmware; 3.33
The inference that the passwords pointed to by strods can be leaked and hacked is a logically possible problem.
However, it is impossible to identify such a hacking path.

At this point, an urgent requirement is to repair the downed equipment
The basic method presented in the manual is not initialized.
How do I initialize my devices?
