L2TP/IPSec Client

Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:29 pm

Hey guys,

I have a HapLite router with the latest firmware with l2tp/ipsec client setup, and im living in the country that applies strong censorship to the internet, thats why i really need to use vpn , my issue is when i connect to my hap lite ap to bypass through vpn, most websites such like facebook, bbc, youtube, etc which is blocked by ISP as i mentioned wont open, but when i setup the same lt2p on any ios or mac or windows devices traffic will passthrough and all the websites will open, so it means my vpn is ok but only not working through mikrotik, can some one help me to fix this issue ??

kind note: i've setup l2tp/ip sec exactly base on below youtube instruction

Use the command below and see what data is actually coming out through the VPN.

Winbox -> New Terminal or Tool -> Traceroute
 /tool traceroute youtube.com

In Windows, iOS, Android and Mac - they automatically forward all traffic over the VPN. The Mikrotik does not.

Edit your L2TP client interface in the Mikrotik, and under the Dial Out tab, check "Add Default Route".

I'm not sure - but you may have to also set the distance of your existing default route to 1.
If your WAN is DHCP, then go to IP > DHCP Client, click the Advanced tab and set Default Route Distance to 1.
If your WAN is Static, then go to IP > Routes, edit the default rule in there.
