wlan interfaces not running

Thu Jun 21, 2018 11:24 pm

Hi,
I have new wAP AC device. For unclear reason, I can't get wlan interfaces into running state, see:
/interface wireless print
Flags: X - disabled, R - running
 0 name="wlan1" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=CC:2D:E0:86:1B:E2 arp=enabled interface-type=Atheros AR9300 mode=ap-bridge ssid="wifi2" frequency=auto band=2ghz-b/g/n channel-width=20/40mhz-Ce secondary-channel="" scan-list=default wireless-protocol=802.11
      vlan-mode=no-tag vlan-id=1 wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0 hide-ssid=no security-profile=wifi compression=no

 1 name="wlan2" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=CC:2D:E0:86:1B:E1 arp=enabled interface-type=Atheros AR9888 mode=ap-bridge ssid="wifi5" frequency=auto band=5ghz-a channel-width=20mhz secondary-channel="" scan-list=default wireless-protocol=any vlan-mode=no-tag
      vlan-id=1 wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0 hide-ssid=no security-profile=wifi compression=no
Log doesn't show anything relevant. Both wlan-leds blinks in 1 second intervals. Disable/enable interface(s) doesn't help, neither reboot. Thanks for advice.

I don't think there's anything config-related, which could have impact on the running/not running state.

An interface is marked as "running" only if connected. Otherwise it stays exactly this way: neither running nor deactivated.

Connected to what?? We're talking about wireless interfaces, which are supposed to be always running, unless disabled=yes.

Connected to whatever is at the other side. Don't like the answer, keep asking - but the answer will be the same.

Just rephrasing, what was said earlier but was not understood: Unless there is a client connected to wireless interface, it will not display "Running" state.
It is important to distinct between running/not-running and enabled/disabled. These are two separate things:

enabled = device is turned on, transmitting beacons, it is possible to connect
disabled = device is turned off, it is impossible to connect

not running = device does not have connected client.
running = device has connected client.

Obviously, disabled device will be always in "not running" state. If device is enabled, it may be either running or not running.

You can enable interface but you will not see running state until at most one device is connected to your wifi
