Not able to log in

Sun Jul 15, 2018 12:44 pm

Hi

I was trying to set up a PPPoE connection on my RouterBoard, and I think I messed up the settings... I'm not able to log in using WinBox. I get an error message saying ERROR: could not connect to <MAC address>. The IP address is now showing as 0.0.0.0 and the previous IP is not working as well... Any idea how I can log into the router? Or should I be resetting the device to factory settings...?

Also, running arp -a in Mac terminal gives the following output.
Vikrams-Mac-mini:~ vikram$ arp -a
? (169.254.0.1) at (incomplete) on en0 [ethernet]
? (169.254.255.255) at ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff on en0 [ethernet]
? (224.0.0.251) at 1:0:5e:0:0:fb on en0 ifscope permanent [ethernet]
? (239.255.255.250) at 1:0:5e:7f:ff:fa on en0 ifscope permanent [ethernet]
broadcasthost (255.255.255.255) at ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff on en0 ifscope [ethernet]
Vikrams-Mac-mini:~ vikram$
Im not aware of any of these new IPs... my previous IP range was 10.10.10.x/24

I'm using the following:
Mac OS 10.12.6
WinBox 3.9 with Wine
Mikrotek RB2011USA-2HnD
RouterBoard OS 6.35.2

Any suggestions pl..?

A search of this forum before yet another post about how "I've been pwned" would do you wonders.

Most hacks we recently saw allowed users to log in - it would be contraproductive to block access as admin would instantly notice and reset the device.
In this case I bet you just accidentally disabled MAC server for winbox etc..

Anyway, as said earlier, definitely go and update your device. Safest way is using netinstall. If not possible, then may try to reset the device to factory defaults and upload new routeros from your computer (it is preferred to do that while rest of network is disconnected so you cant get hacked while your router is without config and without protection)

In regards of your "weird IP" - nothing you should be afraid of:
169.254.*.* = private self-assigned IP, when DHCP is not available
224.*.*.* and 239.*.*.* = multicast addresses
255.255.255.255 = broadcast address
These are pretty common for specific forms of communication and has nothing to do with your usual LAN IP range

edit: as you have RB2011, can you try to connect using serial port (You find it on rear panel, just next to power input. Looks like normal RJ45 port and is compatible with common USB-RJ45 cisco cable)
