Help me to protect my server please

Fri Jan 04, 2019 10:36 pm

I am new in MikroTik
I have server working 24/7
I have ISP " it fall 1 or 2 time per day " but it's price is very good
& I have another ISP " very stable " but very expensive if i use it for 24/7

in normal " When 2 ISP is good " i want to make my First ISP is a main & my second ISP is a backup ..... all traffic come from First one
if first ISP fall .... MikroTik switch to second ISP
and when first ISP come back MikroTik switch again from second to first

can i make this with MikroTik ..... and if yes .... what is the good MikroTik version i will buy

Thank you all

the short answer is yes.

what you need is automatic fail-over between 2 ISPs, many posts here and on wiki would give you the configuration needed. so I won't repeat here.

one slight problem, would be that when you are on 2nd ISP, our public IP would change. Mikrotik have built in DDNS (under, IP- > Cloud ) so you can access your server no matter what the public IP is.
However, with some ISP, typically 4G connections, your WAN IP on the router is not necessarily a public IP (it's their internal IP). If this is the case, the outside world will not have access to your server .

Hope this helps you.

The most basic is as follows..........

/ip route
add check-gateway=ping distance=1 gateway=WAN1
add distance=2 gateway=WAN2

what I use

/ip route
add check-gateway=ping distance=2 gateway=8.8.4.4
add check-gateway=ping distance=3 gateway=208.67.220.220
add distance=10 gateway=backupISPgatewayIP
add distance=2 dst-address=8.8.4.4/32 gateway=primaryISPgatewayIP scope=10
add distance=3 dst-address=208.67.220.220/32 gateway=primaryISPgatewayIP scope=10

In the first three rules above the destination address is the default 0.0.0.0/0,
