1. if you know the LAN IP of your router, set your laptop to the same IP range and connect.
2. or , use Winbox, connect to any LAN interface of the router, it should see and allow you to connect using routers MAC address, without the need of IP address.

Default IP range is 192.168.88.1/24, you can use 192.168.88.10/24

The default setup on the reouter and using winbox to access the router from your PC is very decent and useable.
When in winbox near the top left is a safe mode.
Select this when using winbox.
If you make any changes to your setup that are not allowed and would cause the router to freeze up are avoided.
What happens is the router kicks you out and you can simply log back in.
What I do, is make a change, and wait a few seconds, if nothing bad happens then I click save mode off (which applies the change) and then I put safe mode back on for the next change.
Once you are in and are comfortable, the next step is to update to the latest version of RouterOS 6.43.8
Good luck!!
