New Hap AC2 setup. Couple of questions/problems

Thu Feb 07, 2019 4:12 am

Hello,

I'm in the process of replacing my old router with a Microtik Hap Ac2. I have it up and running but am running into a few problems. I'm not able to browse my internal lan machines from my wireless devices. The other issue i'm seeing is my internal lan is very slow. I stream recordings from my pvr PC to other wired clients via Kodi and the recorded videos are stuttering and timing out when watching on another client on the lan. Here's my export from the router. Just wondering if there are any suggestions for me. Browsing to the internet seems ok although I did get a few buffers when streaming from discovery.com

This router is replacing a netgear nighthawk router that had the wifi fail. I've never had any problems streaming content on my internal lan previously. I also tested copying a large(3GB) file and the transfer speeds are about 1/3 rd of the speed from my old router. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your configuration looks ok. I would check cabling issues in the ethernet lan side. You can check the status in the Mikrotik with something like this (it is from a hAP ac, slightly different as it has the sfp1 port:
[admin@MikroTik] > /interface ethernet monitor [find]
                        name: ether1 ether2 ether3 ether4 ether5 sfp1
                      status: link-ok link-ok link-ok no-link no-link no-link
auto-negotiation: done done done failed failed done
                        rate: 1Gbps 1Gbps 1Gbps
                 full-duplex: yes yes yes

             rx-flow-control: no no no

                                                    1000M-full
          sfp-module-present: no
Also, check the topology of your cabled/wireless network, in case one of your devices is making bridge loops. The log can help there. See /log print output.
You can test cable with
admin@MikroTik] > /interface ethernet cable-test numbers=[find]
           name: ether1 ether2 ether3 ether4 ether5 sfp1
         status: link-ok link-ok link-ok no-link no-link no-link
    cable-pairs: open:2 open:0
                                         open:2 open:0
                                         open:2 open:0
                                         open:2 open:1
The number after "open" is an estimation of length of cable in case something is plugged in but unplugged at the other side.

Yup, I see nothing that stands out in terms of creating your situation.

This one is now redundant, left over from default config, you can remove.
/ip dns static
add address=192.168.88.1 name=router.lan

Here most people put in a few choices
/ip dns
set allow-remote-requests=yes servers=\
8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4,208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222

I would try if not already done is putting in an antenna gain manually of +2.
Not sure if the latest firmware does that automatically??

Thanks for the help. It ended up being one of my cheap 5 port trendnet switches that was bad. Hooked up the PC in that room direct to ethernet and things worked great. I can connect to my lan devices from wifi again and copy speeds on the lan are back to normal. I'm getting about 20mb/s copying large files via wifi. Not sure if that's normal or if I need to do some further tweaking.
