I recently rebuild my home network with mikrotik hap ac2 as a brain of this operation. Now, when I have configured all vlans, guest and IoT networks, etc. I started thinking about signal range extension. I found MikroTik RouterBOARD RbcAPGi-5acD2nD, cAP ac and here is the main question of this topic - should I buy it or there is another, better device from MT which I should use?
What I need is:
- design allowing hangind on the wall
- 2.4 and 5g radio
- central management with capsman
- good signal range
- second eth port will be a big advantage.

MikroTik cAP ac fulfills all those point therefore I think it will be the best, but maybe You guys are aware of some other MT device which is not so popular therefore I did not find it or some new thing which is soon comming out and its worth waiting few weeks, etc.

Appreciate all Your suggestions.

The wSAP AC Lite is an alternative. It gives you 2 additional Ethernet ports (include 1 x passive POE out) and it fits into standard wall power sockets (US). but wifi coverage is probably not as good as the cAP AC.

I personally go with more hap ac2, they have poe in and you have 4 extra ports. I use 2 hap ac2 as ap/switch they work great.

Hi All,

I have questions on this topic, we have a Mikrotik Capsman outside the houses and we wanted to extend the signal inside those houses but not using a Mikrotik but a dlink extender. 50 houses surrounded by Mikrotik WAPs and 25 of those we want to install dlink wifi extender. I want to know if it will not be a problem because our budget only for dlinks and we cannot afford to buy anymore additional mikrotik APs.

Please advise.

Thank you in advance.

The dlink will be separate devices and you will have no control over them, via capsman. If you are asking will they be able to receive an industry standard wifi signal.......... well thats up to dlink.

What do this Extender Signal is WDS (Wireless Distribution System), so you will only need to configure WDS with Mikrotik and Dlink devices.

Could you please send me the details of how you configured the two hap ac2's as I am looking at doing the same.
Thanks
