I am newbie in Mikrotik.
I am being asked by MTCINE guy to
1. Reset to factory default without pressing Reset button on RB951 without knowing its ip, username and password

I remember correctly because I ever tested, that can done by using the following method
1. press hold Reset button on power up till led blinking
2. do
> /system reset-configuration
but that only happen when you successfully login
3. later after 1 hour left him. I remember doing Netinstall.
This is like booting os from your pc
But that one need pressing Reset button as well
4. short jumper inside the box. but that also the same as pressing Reset button

STEPS TAKEN
1. connect directly to Mikrotik from my pc
my pc didn't get any ip in LAN ether2
2. Winbox connect to MAC address of ether1 didn't respond

QUESTIONS:
1. Do you think is possible to reset to factory default without pressing Reset button?

tq

If you can't log into it then no you won't be able to reset it without using the button. If you could then it would be a huge risk for anyone with a MT router deployed.

If you have phisical access and you dont want to use the reset button there is most likely no option to do that. Is there any reason you are not allowed to press the reset button? Netinstall would be one option - but that only works with pressing the button as well so..

I am being tested by MTCINE
He asked me not to press Reset button
In my experience so far. I am always use Reset button.
In my mind. I am thinking whether Mikrotik like Cambium which can do factory reset by doing power cycling for 10s.

If forum guru here said it CAN'T be done without pressing button then I would agree with you without any doubt

theoretically, you can use a serial to access bios, but RB951 does not have one, so the answer is NO.
