Blocking TikTok

Tue Mar 24, 2020 2:28 pm

Hello,
I have a small home network with a Mikrotik hap ac router OS 6.46.4.
I would like to block tiktok.com across the network.
I've tried many ways and instructions, but the Ticktok on the LAN is still running.
I have no problem blocking other domains.
Thanks RM

Perhaps you can share the way you have configured it now?

What are you blocking ?
All domains below for example should be blocked to stop TikTok from working.(and it might change over time)

v16a.tiktokcdn.com
p16-tiktokcdn-com.akamaized.net
log.tiktokv.com
ib.tiktokv.com
api-h2.tiktokv.com
v16m.tiktokcdn.com
api.tiktokv.com
v19.tiktokcdn.com
mon.musical.ly
api2-16-h2.musical.ly
api2.musical.ly
log2.musical.ly
api2-21-h2.musical.ly

Thank you for the tips. The problem was with the placement of the rule. I had it at the end of the list. I moved it up a bit and it looks good so far.

Don't use L7 rules to block domains, it's dangerous, slow and unreliable.
You can use DNS entries to block dns. Then just use a NAT redirect rule to capture all customer DNS requests.

You know what good decision was when I downloaded TIkTok....soon after I understood few hours of my life were stolen on absolute nothing and I deleted it. Many do absolutely nonsense to improve their profile with subs thinking it’s cool. Another deal is Instagram with this option how to buy real instagram likes you can use for adding new likes for fair price and be in Social Media someone like Rihanna with millions of followers. For someone, it’s very important. There are people who make real money posting something on Instagram for thousands of dollars. One photo with description and vuala

And I English that will become?

Any solution that involves DNS will not work if client do use DoH/DoT (IOS 14 as an example)
There are no any simple solutions to 100% block any thing on your network without removing the cable, or
if you are a lager company that you have 100% control of all devices on your network (policys/accounts/certificates etc)

If its for home users to block stuff for kids, they just find an other non blocked network (phone network, friends phone network, neighbor wifi etc), or hacks around it.

Only one thing works, that is to educate users.
