For me the more interesting discussion and comparison is between the
hapac and the hapac2
1 HapAC
- AC1750 (better 5ghz performance)
- nil ipsec accel
-CPU older MIPSBE , QCA9558 - 1core, nominal freq 720Mhz
-RAM 128mb, storage 16mb
-no USB
-performance ethernet(512kb, 25 filter rules) - 319mb
-no performance ipsec
-POE out - 1 port
2HapAC2
-AC1200
-ipsec hardware acceleration
-CPU newer ARM 32bit, IPQ-4018 - 4core, nominal freq 716Mhz
-RAM 128mb, storage 16mb
-USB (external drive or 4G/LTE modem)
-performance ethernet(512kb, 25 filter rules) - 986
-performance ipsec >1 tunnel (512kb) - 155
-no POE
Based on the above, one sees that there are trade-offs.
If one is NOT doing vpn and has an ISP connection at 300mb or less the hapac will give better wifi.
If one is doing vpn or has an ISP fiber at 500 down or even more1gig then the hapac2 is the obvious choice.
The other factors may be need for 4G backup ISP or need to do poe for example.
My personal preference, for a 1 gig setup is to go with the RB450Gx4 for routing and the capACs for wifi (AC1200) or if not stuck on MT wifi, this option is flexible in that you can go for tp link eap245 (AC1750) access points or others.........
RB450Gx4
-ipsec hardware acceleration
-CPU newer ARM 32bit, IPQ-4019 - 4core, nominal freq 716Mhz
-RAM 1Gb, storage 512mb
-POE out 1 port
-performance ethernet (512kb, 25 filter rules) - 913
-performance ipsec >1 tunnel (512kb) - 155
To compare lets look at the RB4011 (the beast !!)
-AC2000 (best 5Ghz performance)
-ipsec hardware acceleration
-CPU newer ARM 32bit , AL21400, 4core, nominal freq 1.4GHz
-RAM 1Gb, storage 512mb
-performance ethernet (512kb, 25 filter rules) - 2561
-performance ipsec >1 tunnel (512kb) - 820
An obvious choice if you only had one location for wifi and/or required near 1Gig ipsec speeds and heavy loads by users or gazillion users with light load.
-SFP+ port - 1
