What do I ask my isp to determine fiber and or spf compatibility

Wed May 20, 2020 5:21 am

Hi all,
I have a Mikrotik RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT router. It has a fiber port. I understand that all internet service providers are not compatible with this fiber. What should I ask my isp to check fiber compatibility and what spf module should I get for a small office / home usage? My ISP connection's advertised speed is 1GBPS.

I currently have a fiber line coming into my house. The line goes to the ISP supplied modem router which I have put into bridge mode. I want to simplify my network hence my desire to use that fiber port on the RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT.
Note:
I am in India and my isp is Airtel.

This is a too specific question. You better should ask the Technical Support of MiktoTik at https://help.mikrotik.com/servicedesk

Hi all,

I have done more research. The ISP is ok with me using my own.
I was looking at the following fiber module.
https://store.ui.com/collections/operat ... uf-instant

The ISP uses a GPON network.

Would Mikrotik support this module?

I am visualizing that I would plugin the fiber cable into the ubiquiti module and plug the LAN cable from the module into ether1 which is configured as my WAN port.

FYI: on the MikroTik product page of your "hAP ac" device at https://mikrotik.com/product/RB962UiGS- ... -downloads
there is a link to "MikroTik SFP module compatibility table" at https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/MikroTik ... lity_table
On the product page there is also another link for asking the sales support on device specific questions.

I would suggest to check whether you can use this cable https://mikrotik.com/product/SplusDA0001 (has 2x SFP+ GPON 1G/10G) as it is a more universal solution. But as said, better first ask the product support for confirmation of compatibility.
