P2MP configuration

Sat Jul 14, 2007 7:20 pm

I am working on mikrotik and would like to know the point to multipoint configuration for this radio.
would like to keep one radio at the BTS with many antennas attached to it.
and simultaneously would install many other clients which would receive signal/connectivity from this radio at the BTS.

So let me know what config needs to be done at the BTS radio and other radios at the client end...
Take for instance,
BTS radio as A
and other clients as B and C..

Waiting for your help.
Thanks in advance.

Do you require security? Is this 2.4 or 5 Ghz?

As a start the AP needs to be in AP-BRIDGE mode with a SSID, set to a usable channel, from here, if its routed, you need IP address assigned to the wireless interface. Create SRC-NAT rules like this:
chain=srcnat out-interface={your wan/ethernet interface} dst-address=0.0.0.0/0
     action=masquerade
And a default route 0.0.0.0/0 to your gateway interface.

From here you can setup DHCP for your wireless clients, now when a client connects to the wireless interface they will have internet data route out the ethernet interface.

Don't forget to set up DNS and ensure the option "allow remote requests" is enabled, otherwise no clients will resolve IP.

This will get you started, from here you can tinker with other cool features of ROS, WPA etc

Take this for an exaple..
currently we have been working with this setup for p2p networks.

BTS Radio Config:-
Mode - station wds
bridge - wds-bridge1
wlan1 ip - 10.10.10.1/30
ether ip - 71.2.221.20/24
route gateway - 71.2.221.1

Client radio config:-
Mode - bridge
bridge - wds-bridge1
wlan1 ip - 10.10.10.2/30
ether ip - 71.2.221.21/24
route gateway - 71.2.221.1

This config seems to be working good for me but this in unnecessarily increasing no. of radio at BTS for no reason.
So i need one radio at BTS(may it be 2.4 or 5Ghz) with some number of antennas tht can atleast span around 4 to 5 clients in the directon of the antennas.

Right now, have been using wlanip of /30 what would be the setup in case of p2mp configs.
explain the way, i wrote above.
would it be,

BTS Radio - ap bridge
and other clients radio as bridge with same frequency and ssid.
what abt the ip addresses, dont want other clients to reach other netwrks.

Forgot to mention, using this setup for VPN and MPLS Networks so using static public ip's.
Thanks.
