Struggling with the most basic of VLANS...

Fri Jan 01, 2021 3:40 pm

Hi – struggling to get my head around the most basic of Mikrotik VLANS with a pair of HapLites.

First unit:
Eth 1 is set to DHCP client, gets internet, can ping Google
Interfaces > Create VLAN ID 10, assign to eth2 (trunk port)
Interfaces > Create VLAN ID 20, assign to eth2 (trunk port)
IP >Address for VLAN10 - 10.0.10.1/24, and create a DHCP server on that VLAN network
IP >Address for VLAN20 - 10.0.20.1/24, and create a DHCP server on that VLAN network
NAT rule: srcnet action: masquerade

Second unit:
Physically linked to the first via cable eth2 <> eth2
Create a bridge called ‘V10’ and a second one ‘V20’
Under Bridge>VLAN I create a new VLAN as follows:
Bridge = V10, VLANID = 10, tagged port = eth2, untagged port = eth3
Create a second VLAN:
Bridge = V20, VLANID = 20, tagged port = eth2, untagged port = eth4

Under Bridge>Ports I then assign to my V10 bridge the VLAN10 along with eth3
Under Bridge>Ports I then assign to my V20 bridge the VLAN20 along with eth4

Connecting a PC to the 2nd unit on eth3 or eth4 I get the correct IP address from DHCP per VLAN
But that is all. I cannot ping the web, and cannot ping the VLAN address set on the first unit – surely I should be able to connect a PC to eth4 and then go to 10.0.20.1 and get the 1st unit's web interface?

What am I doing wrong please? Drawing attachedImage
Tutorial made no mention of PVIDS or VLAN filtering, which seems odd. There are many settings in interfaces and bridge that seem to almost duplicate each other which I find confusing,

Thanks and happy new year!

Did you study this nice tutorial? Most of various video tutorials, available on youtube, are either outdated or plain wrong.

If you did but things don't work for you, post configuration of both devices (execute /export hide-sensitive in terminal window).
