My last hope.

Tue Feb 02, 2021 1:58 am

Hello there im facing some serious latency issues in games like latency spikes that are happening in all games and are constant.
My gear is rb4011 mikrotik wifi version also international bought it from amazon.com and i live in the US
im using for the modem netgear cr1150v
I tried all kind of troubleshooting but no solution, including port forwading, reinstalling windows, resettings my modem/router and getting 2 technicians to my house to check on the line also checking on the main pole with no solutions.
I tried to buy a seperate ethernet adapter to see if my problem is my pc but same issue.
I am not a networking geek and therefore im still learning, about basic networking and how it works, and somebody suggested mikrotik on the other discord
I didn't do any kind of setup on the mikrotik router and only used the quick profile setup they provided the only thing i did i put a password for it for wifi but that's it.
If someone can provide some insight about the issue i will really appreciate it because it's really frustrating when it comes to online gaming.
And i also tried to ping my router/modem you know basic troubleshooting steps and the MS came out fine
Is there a possibility here of the mikrotik router is actually defective and if so how i can test?

Perform ping test from Mikrotik to 1.1.1.1. Then perform the same from your PC. Is the result almost identical?

We can't say what's wrong, unless you share your configuration with us.

Do you experience the same problems when your computer is connected directly to the Netgear (by cable!)? Why would you use multiple routers (NAT after NAT)?

I am not using multiple routers, netgear is the modem, and the router is mikrotik wifi version. and that's it. i tried to connect my computer straight to the modem port 1 but i got no internet so.

Just to be sure, the RB receives a public IP address?
Are you gaming through Wifi or through cable?

Connect your PC directly via Ethernet cable to the modem and try to reproduce your problem. Make sure it works without issues. If yes, then you can investigate further. If has issues, resolve it with your provider who gave this modem to you.

It's a netgear cm1150v and not supplied by my ISP. and i can't do that for some reason. when i connect my pc to port1 on the modem it doesnt give me internet, since the modem itself is a passthrough to the router.

Your computer can act just fine as an end device. You do not need a router to connect to Internet (https://community.netgear.com/t5/Cable- ... -p/1976652).
I just noticed there is no model netgear cr1150v, maybe cm1150v? Anyway, it doesn't change my advice.

PS: make sure your PC is properly firewalled before direct connect your PC to the modem. Mikrotik has good firewall rules by-default, and you connecting PC directly, so firewall you must install and configure yourself.

Lets start from the beginning: what is your connection type?

Not all internet connections are suitable for low latency online gaming.
