Hap ac2 topping at 170mbps

Wed Mar 17, 2021 12:04 am

Hi all,
First of all I am new to this kind of thing, I dabble a little bit in networking but not much, let's just say I am a PC aficionado, software engineer and a tinkerer.
I got this Ac2 to replace my RT-AC68u on the wan portion of the "network" so now my asus acts as a wifi AP and openvpn server. It does the pppoe login and acts like a switch basically.

From what I've read it should be capable of ~1gbps of nat-wan connectivity (I don't know if by-directional or not) but right now, while torrenting it's maxing out at around 170-180mbps total traffic, can anyone let me know what should I do?
Btw: sometimes it spikes ~240mbps. I got 120mbps symmetric ftth

Re: Hap ac2 topping at 170mbps

The HAPAC2 is indeed fully capable of well over 1gig of traffic in one direction.
The limits are the devices that connect through the router I suspect.
For example the ASUS Wifi is probably no more than 300-400Mbps

Two things need fixing:
1. missing part on source nat rule
/ip firewall nat
add action=masquerade chain=srcnat comment="defconf: masquerade" ipsec-policy=out,none \
out-interface-list=WAN

2. Missing Interface Member list entry.
/interface list member
add comment=defconf interface=bridge list=LAN
add comment=defconf interface=ether1 list=WAN
add interface=pppoe-out1 list=WAN

Thanks! I put them in the config, what those changes do? Just curious

The RT-AC68u can also do a gigabit if it's not nating, but my pc is connected to the Hap directly using ethernet.
