Winbox can no longer connect

I paid a guy on fiver to help me out with setting up basic VPN on my RB device. He recommended to uprade my device from 41, to 44 then to 48 ( I think those are the numbers) and now I am unable to winbox into the device. Traffic is working and I can VPN but even wheN I enter the correct username/password, I cannot get into the device. Is factory reset my only option?

Do you get wrong username/password or does it not show up in Winobox.
You could try using Winbox on lan side and connect using mac address connection.

Try to use newest version of winbox. The way password is stored on RB in how password is negotiated with winbox changed somewhere around 6.44. Old versions of winbox don't work with new versions of ROS and vice versa.

When I enter a wrong password, I get an error.
When I enter the right password, it hangs.
It's in legacy mode. (was working before upgrade)
I can indeed access the sstem as I was using it the day before. The fiver guy says it stuck without user code??

Am I really forced to reset it and loose my config?

And you are using latest WinBox? Try another PC as well.

The PC was working before the upgrade.

Is there any way to debug whats' going on . I have let winbox sit after tring to log in and it just sit there for 30 minutes now, unable to log in.

It seems my upgrade broke?

No.
You need to be using Winbox 3.27 in non-legacy mode if your RouterOS version is 6.48
You could always try command line access with SSH (or even Telnet).
Sometimes you need to delete the .viw files that Winbox creates in %AppData%\Roaming\Mikrotik\Winbox\sessions

Hey everybody,

this solved my problem:
For the case of hosts with multiple network interfaces (regardless of whether physical or virtual), disable all of them except the one that faces the MikroTik router you want to connect to
