The Mikrotik Log Buffer in memory is getting bloated.  [SOLVED]

Tue Apr 20, 2021 10:03 pm

The Mikrotik Log Buffer in memory is getting bloated.
Normally this is constant at 1000 lines (items)

I have a hAP ac router running MikroTik RouterOS 6.48.1

Since I have added a new rule and action to log also to disk (actually a USB stick) the following topics (actually exclusions. I want everything else) :
!debug !dns !dhcp !bridge
the new rule/action messages are written correctly to the USB stick. However, they also appear and remain in the log buffer in memory.
So, for example, the log buffer, which is normally trimmed to 1000 lines, now has 1670 lines.

Interestingly, if I make a change to the topics list in the Rule (say I remove !bridge), the log immediately reverts to 1000 items,
cleaning out all the duplicates which were anyway already written to the USB stick.

I guess at some time, if this carries on in the same way, the memory is going to fill up.

I've checked the forums and can't find a similar issue.

Is this a known issue and are there any suggestions of how to proceed ?

In the mean time I have understood the behaviour of this log trimming. Since I have added a new rule/action pair, the total number of lines in the buffer is the cumulative total of the default logged items and the ones from my additional configuration. That is now 2000 items. The trimming at 2000 appears successful.
