SXT LTE6 (EE UK) dropping connection with B20+B3

Tue May 11, 2021 10:01 pm

Hi there, very new here so hopefully I'm posting this in the right place!

Having issues with our SXT-LTE6 with an EE sim. On initial setup I simply changed the APN to "everywhere" which is all EE requires to connect. It connected straight away for long enough to do a speed test which produced decent speeds (faster than I was expecting!) I quickly noticed though that without any network activity the connection would drop completely then reconnect a few seconds later. This happens constantly every 20 seconds or so unless the network is kept alive (streaming something or downloading a large file).

Upon looking at the logs I saw the following errors:
lte1: reply timeout for: AT+EEMGINFO?
lte1 link down
lte1: lte1: reply timeout for: ATE0

Then it connects again:
lte1: registered home
lte1 link up

Then 20 seconds later the same:
lte1: reply timeout for: AT+EEMGINFO?
lte1 link down
lte1: lte1: reply timeout for: ATE0

I played around with the bands (EE uses bands 3 and 20) and forced it to only use B20 and strangely enough I had a stable connection, but it's B20 so speeds were significantly cut. It doesn't seem to like using both at a time.

Any help with this would be hugely appreciated!

RouterOS is latest version: v6.48.2 (stable)
I also updated firmware to latest version: R11e-LTE6_V027 I saw some other users reported updating to this version fixed similar problems but unfortunately not for me :(

Curious if other EE users are facing a similar problem? Strange how when CA band 3 drops it's causing the connection to drop completely, like the modem is resetting..

I am seeing exactly the same problems SXT LTE6 (EE UK). Initially upgrading firmware to V27 seeming to make it stable but recently the problem is back. I'm at a loss - any advice?

Best thing to do is get in touch with Mikrotik support. After diagnosing the issue they sent through a release candidate firmware v28 which fixed the issue right away.

You'll need to supply them with a supout.rif file. This can be done with the following steps:

Enable LTE debug logging from command line:
/system logging add topics=lte,!raw

Then follow instructions here to generate supout.rif (make sure you do this after you have rebooted the modem and encountered the issue):
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:S ... utput_File

Hope you get it sorted!

I am having exactly the same issue, same network. Having ~300 Links downs per 24h after being stable for weeks (wonder if its related to hot weather).

I have RouterOS 6.47.10 from the long-term channel
and upgraded RouterBoard firmware to 6.47.10

I just figured out the V27 you are referring to here is LTE firmware which is another to update. I was on V25 and will now be on V27 and see if the problem continues.

If v28 does fix it for others please report back here!

I suggest additional add this Watch LTE parameters: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=155945&p=821262#p821047
It's help detect changes.

Aditional with simple netwatch who count online/offine periods Simple watchdog: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=153622&hilit=watchdog#p767767

Is it possible to download and update the firmware manually?

I'm having the same issue with connection dropping in and out (EE UK) every few seconds on a SXT LTE6, so unable to update the firmware using terminal.

Currently running R11e-LTE6 v025

I'm seeing this issue again with v33 firmware and can't find a copy of the v28 firmware to load back onto the modem. Anyone able to help?

Hello Timmay2,

I have added some detail on my experience of the same errors on the General Forum but here is a precis:

Only had the kit installed for a day when the lte1 link died and refused to come back. Suppliers diagnosed a sim problem and we had a replacement sim (from EE - I wonder if that is significant!) the next day and I installed it. It came up ok and was stable for hours in the evening. I noticed some dropouts yesterday - 24 in total. However, that figure has increased to 437 overnight. There is one mention of a SIM failure in the log - which I have increased to 5000 lines until we can nail this problem.

It did produce this sequence once this morning:
09:05:30 lte,async lte1: sent AT+CPIN?
09:05:30 lte,async lte1: rcvd +CME ERROR: SIM failure
and two occurrences of the reply timeout:
	Line 260: 09:05:02 lte,error lte1: reply timeout for: AT+EEMGINFO?
	Line 2838: 09:09:00 lte,error lte1: reply timeout for: AT+EEMGINFO?
There are long sequences like this:
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: sent AT+CFUN?
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: rcvd ERROR
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: sent AT+CFUN=4
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: rcvd ERROR
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: sent AT+CFUN?
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: rcvd ERROR
09:05:27 lte,async lte1: sent AT+CFUN=4

I am awaiting for a call back from the suppliers but I wonder how many end-users would notice the multiple failures if they occur overnight and come back up.

I am considering setting up a persistent and big log to disk specifically for the LTE output.

Although new to LTE and similar technologies I used to program modems in a previous life so know my way around the syntax.

If I find anything new I shall pass it on.

Thank you, SiB. My version of the modem is R11e-LTE6_v025. Should I update it?
