Using SFP Port for WAN Connection - Cloud Router Switch

Fri May 14, 2021 12:37 am

Hi,
I have just received CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD-IN

Totally default config. No changes at all.

If I connect my WAN connection to Ether1, it all behaves as expected.
If I move that same WAN connection cable to an SFP Module (1.25GBps SFP to RJ45 Transceiver Module from CableMatters) installed in the SFP port, the LED below (ACT/LINK) does not light and indeed the connection is not live. Webfig shows no link. The port is enabled, and I can see the Transceiver Module details in Webfig.

What else do I have to do to make this work?

TIA

Well, the solution to this is that the "Cable Matters 1000BASE-T Gigabit SFP to RJ45 Copper Ethernet Modular Transceiver for Cisco, Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Huawei, Mikrotik, Netgear, and Supermicro Equipment" (bought on Amazon) does NOT work (I tried two of them) but this device "10Gtek for Mikrotik 1G SFP RJ45 Transceiver S-RJ01-10/100/1000Base-T Copper Mini-Gbic Module" (also from Amazon) just works.

I wonder why??
