Unable to Access Cube 60G AC to Configure

Sun May 16, 2021 1:58 pm

Hi All,

I have a brand new paired set of Cube 60G ac radios. While not a Mikrotik expert, this is the 2nd set I have worked with. I was able to easily set up the first set, but I am unable to access the interface on the new set.

I have tried:
1. Set my laptop's Ethernet IP to 192.168.88.10/24 gw 192.168.88.1 and browse to 192.168.88.2. (I am attempting to configure the master)
2. Set my laptop's Ethernet IP to 192.168.88.100/24 gw 192.168.88.1 and browse to 192.168.88.2.
3. Set my laptop's Ethernet IP to 192.168.88.1/24 gw 192.168.88.1 and browse to 192.168.88.2.
4. I tried to access with Winbox. It does not appear in the list, though my two CRS switches do appear.
5. Tried Winbox with only the cube connected directly - No switch between.
6. Factory reset and repeat trying to access with Winbox and browser.
7. The long factory reset, again repeating Winbox and browser.
8. The super long factory reset (20+ seconds) to set into Etherboot mode. Then I tried to install using Netinstall. I followed the guide precisely, using both my laptop and my PC. The cube didn't appear in the Netinstall list on either device.

What have I missed?

My first set I had up and working, using my laptop, in 45 minutes, so I think my methodology is correct.

Can anyone more experienced point me in the right direction?

Thank you,

Darren

while trying to see what is happening, I ran wireshark. The cube is issuing DHCP/BOOTP requests. I connected it to a freshly reset Cisco RV215W router and it did not get an IP address, while my laptop did, confirming that the router is responding to DHCP requests.

I repeated the process with the slave unit, attempting to connect to 192.168.88.3. The results were consistent with the master's results.

I really can’t say that I’m satisfied with Mikrotik right now. No response to a ticket in 4 days. The equipment was shipped defective and required manual intervention simply to gain access. The Netinstall process erased the configuration, which erased the pairing. After a LOT of research, I found the wiki page that explained how to restore the pairing. I was able to restore the pairing of the 60GHz. I did not yet restore the 5GHz radios and the interface bonding.

I had them set up on my kitchen table to testing and configuration. I was able to ping across the link.

I boxed them up and drove to my client’s site and began final configuration. At this point the Master unit, which was working 45 minutes prior, would no longer power up.

I need to explain at this point that this is the 2nd set we tried. The first arrived DOA.

I think Mikrotik can and should do better than this.

Shipped defective from where?

I'm a WISP and I use dozen a day, real statistic:
this year, till now, RMA for 2 dish /r2,
Previous years:
10 dish "1st series" defective on plastic cover
1 CCR /r2 defective on SOFTWARE, after 6.46 work
Is good statistic after buy near 2000 device at year...

4 AP PTP 450i Cambium, 1 broken after 8 month, shipped for repair 3 month ago, I'm still waiting...
60 CPE PTP 450b HG Cambium, 4 with license for 4Mbit/s !!!, 2 broken after 1/2 weeks...

Ubiquity:
300 / 400 AP, near all broken and replaced with MikroTik.

TP-Link
This f**** AP lost configuration so easy, and the fkng reset button.....
we stop using it.

Compare Yourself....

If you buy something, you do not instantly know how the device works.

Bootp request are for netinstall, launch the program do not automatically insert in your brain the knowledge needed for run correctly.

My try to write on english, not automatically give me the perfect grammar.

You are correct. However, the problem about not being able to access it to configure it was a known issue that bad firmware shipped from the factory. I'm sorry you took that personally.

And having two sets fail, identically, seems to indicate a problem.

Shipped defective from distributor, you want say, not directly from MikroTik... :)

Sometimes the distributor just receives the items,
but it has to be "open" for apply the license (linked to distributor and can be verifiable)
And sometime have bad habit to update software with branding and cleaning the config...

You can register here:
https://mikrotik.com/client
and redeem ownership of the device
Usually you find than the device... is not yours but of your distributor....

Thanks for reply
