Access website hosted locally on a computer from an android phone

Mon Jun 07, 2021 2:58 am

Hello everyone,

Feeling hopeless after wasting entire weekend trying to make it work, hopefully someone is kind enough to guide me where to look. I'm a beginner, please excuse me.

Set-up: WAN in MikroTik Audience, WAN out to MikroTik RB260GSP switch with two LANs out, one to computer the other one goes to NAS. The other devices like smartphone, printer, TV are using the WLAN of Audience.

I've assigned IP addresses for every single device in my network, let's say my computer (LAN) uses 192.168.88.100 and smartphone (WLAN) uses 192.168.88.101 addresses. I'm running MAMP PRO nginx server on my computer, and I can reach hosted website from my computer using both localhost and 192.168.88.100:7888 address as well. The problem is, when I try to access 192.168.88.100:7888 from my smartphone I get "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT".

Different observations:
- If I ping 192.168.88.100 from my smartphone I get 100% packet loss;
- If I ping 192.168.88.101 from my computer I get 100% packet loss;
- I can access my NAS (192.168.88.102) perfectly fine from both computer and smartphone! Even though I don't remember doing anything special to make it work;
- I've tried to connect my computer to the Wi-Fi, to make both computer and smartphone stay in the WLAN, but it didn't help;
- I've tried to reach the local website from another computer in my network (WLAN too), and it didn't help, so the problem is not in the smartphone;

Please help me to understand what am I doing wrong. I always thought I don't need any special setup to be able to interact between different devices in local network? Do I need to configure something on the router itself? Please guide me.

Thank you.
