hello Anav,

thx for reply, changing to 20/40MHz Ce cut the link speed to fixex 400Mb/s but it was still unstable.

Swap back to 20/40/80mhz-Ceee make a stable UPload at ~65MB/s but DLoad is still crappy an jumping from 15-26MB/s.

Any other clue ?

Re: RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD - RouterOS 6.48.3 - AC wireless preformance

Mon Jun 14, 2021 6:52 pm

I recently purchased the RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD and can agree with anav to turn off WiFi and get a better AP.

I had very unstable download speeds between 15Mbps-150Mbps whereas my regular was 300Mbps-400Mbps.

In the end having tried many configuration variations I accepted defeat and returned the iGS+5HacQ2HnD version and instead purchased the iGS+RM whilst using my ASUS RT-AC86U as an access point.

Its an excellent router you just got the wrong model,
you need the RB4011 just wired. Not sure where you heard it was recommended to get the wifi model.
In any case, attaching wifi to a router is IMHO not the smart move, a. because wifi technology changes more rapidly and cannot be upgraded in firmware but more
importantly, one can place wifi where it makes sense and not just where the router has to be............................

If you want good wifi5 I have had excellent stability with the TP Link EAP245v3 models.
I am itching to try a newer wifi6 620 or 660 at some point.

Oh please ... stop whining and do it already. And don't forget to throw your beloved 245's in my direction real hard.

Isn't buying lottery ticket a prerequisite for winning the lottery? Are you doing anything about it? Or you rather spend the dime on Canadian rye? ;-)

second covid dose

Which one, Pfizer? I opted for Biontech and had only minor (next to none) side effects. It's been almost 3 weeks since second shot and I'm almost certified to resume normal life ;-)

Can you please also post an export of your wireless security profile please ?

Also you may want to try the new RoS 7.1 Beta 6 with wifiwave2 package.......https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/WifiWave2

Does it has QoS options? Just noticed Qnap went into networking industry.

As stated would have kept the RB4011 for its router functionality, cannot do much better pound for pound and then use the qnap for wifi only..........

Damn, that's as bad as consumer grade routers BUT at least you get proper WiFi from it.

For what it's worth, the WIFI on my RB4011 works fine for my use (even in my yard) and I've only had bad performance on very old Intel cards, while the proper APs from another manufacturer I have at work are terrible all around because they were apparently never configured properly (we're still waiting on replacement WIFI cards that haven't solved anything since their deployment started last year). I'll get people upset again if I say that the software side could be improved somewhat to make the wireless experience a little more user friendly, but overall I'm very happy with my RB4011...and I'd preorder an improved RB5009 with WIFI if one was in the works (no such unit has been planed according to a Q&A on YouTube that I translated).

well so how you can explane why the same wifi card in the laptop works great on Qnap router but not on RB4011

I think because of this: "set [ find default-name=wlan1 ] ampdu-priorities=0,2,6,7 band=5ghz-a/n/ac basic-rates-a/g=\
6Mbps,9Mbps,12Mbps,18Mbps,24Mbps,36Mbps,48Mbps,54Mbps channel-width=20/40/80mhz-Ceee country=no_country_set disabled=no \
distance=indoors frequency-mode=superchannel ht-basic-mcs="mcs-0,mcs-1,mcs-2,mcs-3,mcs-4,mcs-5,mcs-6,mcs-7,mcs-8,mcs-9,mcs\
-10,mcs-11,mcs-12,mcs-13,mcs-14,mcs-15,mcs-16,mcs-17,mcs-18,mcs-19,mcs-20,mcs-21,mcs-22,mcs-23" hw-protection-mode=\
rts-cts mode=ap-bridge name=wlanAC secondary-channel=auto ssid=x99-ac wireless-protocol=802.11 wmm-support=enabled \
wps-mode=disabled"

freq auto : not done with MT (make a proper selection, based on environment checks yourselves. This is the most important choice!)
no-country set : not done
ampdu-priorities: if no mangle rules for priority, this makes no sense. If there are mangle rules they can slow down if not implemented wisely.
band a/n/ac: stick to only ac
freq mode superchannel: not done
ht-basic-mcs: basic rates only use one radio. mcs-8 and up for basic rates are not done
hw-protection-mode rts-cts: why create this extra delay if you have a clear channel? "ac" does its own per channel rts/cts. With 80MHz wide channels interference is likely to happen.

And check all columns of the registration table, then you will know why the interface rate has dropped. (SNR, CCQ, HW frames/frames ratio, .... ). Transmission drops the spatial streams from 3S, 2S to even 1S ! Occupied Airtime on the channels cannot be seen while using the connection with MT.

I didn't reply to diminish the issues you had. I replied because this thread makes the RB4011 look like a bad option for wireless when it has worked well for me and I assume many others. There were things to tweak that you probably didn't try...

Regardless, any all-in-one unit will have compromises, which is why MT sells a unit without WIFI. There's nothing wrong with consumer routers and most are not only user-friendly - they have features that MT will take years to deploy. On the other hand, MT gives you most of their enterprise features even with an entry-level plastic box. My RB4011 stays up for months without issues and since I've had to work from home in the last year, that was my top priority. It isn't a WIFI champ, but it works with APs when required. BTW, no manufacturer guarantees performance for all wireless clients on the market - that would be impossible. And how is it surprising that a new WIFI 6 gaming card works better paired with a new WIFI 6 router ? Too bad MT didn't work out for you...
