Newbie looking for VPN help

Mon Jun 21, 2021 12:02 am

I bought a Mikrotik Hap Lite and upgraded it to the latest stable firmware of routerOS (6.45.9) and managed used the default config to set it up. This part is all good and working.
Now i then tried to set this up with surfshark vpn to get around geo blocking and my isp throttling/blocking traffic so the idea was to have this act as a vpn router between my tv and my standard router.

I followed the guide on surfshark to the letter https://support.surfshark.com/hc/en-us/ ... with-IKEv2
but nothing is working... well internet still works through the hap but there seems to be no vpn working.

I have trawled the internet and these forums and quite frankly given myself multiple headaches :)

When following the tutorial all the commands seem to be accepted and it does populate the IP/Ipsec menu with various items

Is it a lost cause and should I look at investing in a better VPN router? Any help is greatly appreciated.

VPN to third party VPN providers is not the purpose of VPN on MT and other business or SOHO routers. A VPN Tunnel is from road warrior to businesss or home router, or vpn router to vpn router.
Sending your info through a third party is not and never will be secure as you have no control over the data in reality.

In any case, yes its difficult to get this stuff to work but your best bet is to try wireguard vpn, available on the beta firmware as that is one that seems to work well, and is much easier to configure.

Exactly what you are looking for: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=169273

Surfshark steps are almost identical. Link is also there.

RouterOS version is 6.48.3
Followed the steps in that post and changed out the necessary bits for surfshark settings. Everything seems to register ok but when i plug in my pc for example it still shows as my own IP despite setting the firewall settings to my pc's IP when connected to Hap Lite.
Is there anywhere I can look to see what part is not working?

I have added links to images of all the settings except Active Peers / Installed SA's and KEys as they are all empty.

Hello,
I did the same setup for my friend, With No secondary router to TV. L2TP PSK. As @anav mentioned WireGuard is a straightforward config in this use case.
By the way, @erkexzcx have a topic regarding the IKEv2 config. I used that about two months ago. Little problems here and there, Eventually. I get it to work. I don't see any reason for not working at your router.
