CRS326-24S+2Q+: IGMP-Snooping, Bridges, VLAN

Wed Jun 30, 2021 12:08 pm

Hello everyone,
we are currently trying to configure a CRS326-24S+2Q+ in our Unifi System because Unifi has a IGMP-Bug in their new AGG-Pro Switch.
We are operating currently more than 20 Switches and over 150 APs. Also we have a IPTV-Headend in-house on a separate VLAN.
On first try we have used SwOS but their we can't change the Multicast Querrier Settings.

Now (and currently running with that configuration) we're using RouterOS with one Bridge (bridge-default) and their are all VLANs configured but we have also an Crestron Audio-System which cannot work with IGMP-Snooping in his VLAN. So we have a TEMP-System and only the Crestron VLAN is not configured/send over the Mikrotik. Is it possible to use more than one Bridge on a single interface ?
Our wish is to use 2 Bridges (one default without IGMP-Snooping and one with the "IGMP-VLANs" and IGMP-Snooping activated) on the interfaces to other Switches.
Is it possible with an other configuration ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback and support

No one here who can help us with that issue ?

Anyone who resolved that with an other configuration ?

Thanks

Not familiar with your use case.

No. As with anything linux-based a physical interface port can only be a member of one bridge.

AFAIK Mikrotik do not support per-VLAN IGMP snooping it is an all-or-nothing setting on the bridge. Would a multicast querier on your Crestron VLAN fix things.

Why would the Crestron and IPTV systems need to interact at all? If there's a third-party control system above both of those, one that (for example) tells the Crestron system how to accept IPTV audio in each room when it changes channels or whatever, that's an outside concern. It just means you have a potentially third VLAN that must be configured to route to both the Crestron and IPTV VLANs. Those two VLANs don't cross-route to each other.

Consider this design:

  • Production/control: VLAN 1, 10.0.1.0/24
  • Crestron: VLAN 2, 10.0.2.0/24
  • IPTV: VLAN 3, 10.0.3.0/24

VLAN 1 routes to VLAN 2 and 3, but 2 and 3 are isolated from each other at both the L2 and L3 levels. Now the IPTV system's IGMP querier doesn't bug the Crestron system, and the control/production network systems can talk to both the Crestron and IPTV systems.

Thanks for your Answer.
IPTV and Creston are separated at all. They don`t need to interact together. But they need to be on the same physical interface to other Switches. Thats why i am asking about a second bridge.
It is with Mikrotik possible to separate logical the vlans ?
In your design, if IGMP-Snooping is activated on the bridge this will also affect the Crestron VLAN because all VLANs are on one bridge, correct ?

What if we don´t configure the Crestron Vlan on the Mikrotik (dont configure in VLANs etc.) would the VLAN "pass-trough" ?

Thanks

Yes, several ways. The simplest and most performant is probably this one. Other methods tend to involve the CPU, so they'll take processor power to manage.

all VLANs are on one bridge, correct ?

While there may be MikroTik products with that limitation, I don't believe the CRS3xx series is among them given how capable they are.

I'm not an expert on VLAN setup with MikroTik switches. I'm just reading the docs and coming to the conclusion that it's worth a try.

What if we don´t configure the Crestron Vlan on the Mikrotik (dont configure in VLANs etc.) would the VLAN "pass-trough" ?

I don't know what you mean by "pass through," but if you're asking if port isolation prevents traffic from moving from one bridge to another, I believe the answer is "yes" unless you go out of your way to set up inter-VLAN routing.

Indeed, port isolation may be all you need. Usually VLANs enter the picture when you're doing something more complicated and thus need the tags to make decisions, including things like inter-VLAN routing, but not limited to that case.
