Can I ues a SXT LTE 6 as an external antenna?

Mon Jul 05, 2021 8:03 pm

I was just wondering if it is possible to use an SXT LTE 6 international version as an external antenna of another router via the ethernet ports?

In other words the sim will be placed in an indoor router (ZTE router to be specific), but the indoor router will use the SXT's antenna to connect. The service I am trying to connect to only allows specific router modems to control the connection but they do not mind using other devices as an external antenna of those routers.

If it is not possible with an SXT LTE 6, but Mikrotik has another system that can do it or if it is possible to install a ZTE modem in the SXT then please link me some web resources on what I need to do.

I don't think there is any device like this in the world for ordinary consumers.
If is possible place ethernet cables, probably is also possible place traditional RF cable...

ZTE router "to be specific"?
What model?

ZTE modem?
What model?

This is a official Supported Peripherals list:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Peripherals

For replace the MiniPCI-e module inside a SXT-R you must open it and lost any form of warranty.

SXT LTE6 cannot be used as antenna (would rather be https://mikrotik.com/product/mant_lte_5o) , but the SXT LTE can be used in passthrough. Eg. all router functions are done in your ZTE.

But then the sim card is out there in the SXT LTE6 (on the roof?).

Maybe a physical eSIM could be used ... https://en.comgate.io/esim/ . If this works, I know SXT LTE owners that hate climbing the roof.

"The eSIM is available in different formats, namely: the embedded version, but also as a regular 3-in-1 plastic sim shape (ejectable nano, micro and normal). An extensive memory on the chip ensures that you can switch profiles over-the-air. This means that you never have to replace a SIM card again, but can look for another profile that you can put on it over-the-air."

Yes, that can be done. If your RB PCB is damaged then it's one of use this unit, if PCB works then better is used some lte module and use unit in normal way.
SXTR/LHGR/LDFR have a u.FL at main PCB, this is your antena and you can use some pigtails to use it.
Remember that SXTR is weak in low freq.
