WinBox Cannot connect to CRS305-1G-4S+IN devices

Thu Aug 12, 2021 12:49 pm

Hi, first post,

I have recently bought two CRS305-1G-4S+IN units, so far they have been working fine, I used them as switches, however this morning both stopped working.

They couldn't be accessed through the Ethernet port, I did try different cables and different computers, to rule out problems.

I proceeded to reset the devices to factory settings, but still the same problem.

From WinBox I can see them in the 'Neighbors' tab, I can see that they have been reset to factory settings because the IP is the default 192.168.88.1, however when I try to 'Connect' with WinBox v3.28 I got the following error: "ERROR: could not connect to 192.168.88.1.

The odd thing is that both of the devices are suffering at the same time of the same issue.

If it helps, what I can see in the 'Neighbors' tab is the correct MAC address, the IP, and then:
Identity: MikroTik
Version: 6.47.9 (long-term)
Board: CR305-1g-4S+

What should I do?

David

Good Morning,

1. Try to connect via MAC-Address
2. If you connect via IP, be sure you have an 192.168.88.X/24 address on your computer

Thanks for quick reply ConnyMercier,

Connection via MAC-Address it worked, WinBox was able to connect, when I set up the device again as a Switch and rebooted, it is still not working.

No Ping, no switching and I can cannot access to device via the static IP I setup from a browser.

What am I doing wrong?

David.

Edited: I forgot to mention that it shows in WinBox with the right new static IP address, and as the switch version 2.13

What mean? You activate SwOS and reboot?

You can not use terminal or winbox with SwOS, only webpage

You can use perfectly as switch also with RouterOS
and you have for config the device WinBox Terminal - IP Telnet - IP SSH - MAC Telnet / WebFig (IP) / WinBox (IP/MAC)

Are you sure the problem is on the switches ?
Did you try to access them through another computer ?

I set the Boot OS to SwOS and then rebooted.

When I try to access to the webpage, nothing happens the browser can not find it, if I ping the IP of the device also reports not reachable.

I did try also with other PCs. With the same result.

As an addendum, I can not access to the webpage of the device neither as SwOS nor in RouterOS (I tried different web browsers, and from different computers)

if on winbox you see the IP of the device like 192.168.88.1 you must put a fixed IP on ethernet you use to access the device,
like 192.168.88.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 (no matter gateway or dns)
and use web browser to open http://192.168.88.1/

I finally got it working.

The solution, in case someone else finds him/herself on the same situation was:

Reset to factory settings, and then use WinBox to connect to your device via MAC-Address, which then it should be in RouterOS, then make sure that the IP you setup for the device has the /24 at the end, then go to the SwOs settings and set the same IP (no /24 needed) , and then it can be set to reboot in SwOS.

If I understand well, it seems that the issue was first that /24 was needed to setup the access trough the webpage for both RouterOS and SwOS, and second it reacts better if the computers on the local network have static IPs setup.

I have to say that I am a bit surprised as before it was working without all this, never the less glad it works again.

Thanks everyone for you help, appreciated the replies and how quick was.

/David
