Quickset CPE Mode

Fri Aug 27, 2021 11:38 am

Hej,

just set up a HAP LITE running 6.47 longterm.

It was factory config.

1. Connected with LAN-cable.
2. Opened WINBOX and went to QUICKSET
3. Chose "CPE" Mode.
4. configured to connect to my existing wireless.
5. Chose to use obtain IP from WIFI (address source setting can be any, ethernet or wifi)

Done.

Up and running.

Devices on LAN received IP-address from WIFI-AP-DHCP-Server (one IP from the network 192.168.0.0/24 pool).
HAP LITE received IP-ADDRESS from WIFI-AP-DHCP-Server (192.168.0.6).

Now, the super weird scenario:

I connected my Laptop via WIFI to my WIFI-AP.

Now my laptop received a 192.168.88.248/24 IP. WHAT TEH????

I know what's going on - but still I want to complain here.
HAP LITE still has it's DEFAULT DHCP-Server running, with it's default 192.168.88.0/24 network pool.

But WHY THE HECK is that DHCP-Server not disabled automatically, WHEN YOU SWITCH TO CPE-MODE IN QUICKSET?????

Re: Quickset CPE Mode  [SOLVED]

It seems like I need to get used to the "MikroTik"-way after all.

QuickSet is handy, but is a one-way fire&forget wizard. It just works on top of current configuration.

So the best way is:

1. Reset device
2. Remove default config after bootup
3. apply quickset preset
4. Fine-tune settings where needed.

That solved it for me. Now I have it working as I would expect. (no orphan dhcp-server, orphan network-addresses, ...)

And once you make ANY change outside of Quickset - NEVER EVER touch QuickSet again.

Also, when you do start making changes outside of QuickSet "Safe" mode is your friend.

Is there some kind of diff command in safe-mode? Something that can show a diff between saved-config and current modified-running-config?

As far as I know there is not, but you COULD do something like an export prior to any changes, then another export after changes. Download both and use the compare feature in NotePad++ to see the differences. However hopefully you know what changes you made while in Safe mode.
