Best budget Mikrotik router for 30-50 sub routers

Sat Aug 28, 2021 2:45 am

Best budget Mikrotik router for 30-50 sub routers. I have an existing network with 30 wireless sub router which has almost 150 end users. My gateway router for that 30 sub routers cant handle it and the processor is so high which makes the packet drop. My Internet speed is 600mbps. What is the best budget router for my network setup?

Can you specify features you need? i.e. what role does it have? e.g. Is there going to be NAT? Queues? Firewall? How many rules? BGP? how many routes? are clients pppoe?

- If it is just about pushing 600Mbps of packets, you could easily go with cheapo stuff like hAP ac2. (just a joke. True, but joke)
- If you want some breathing space for future then I guess RB4011 could be a good option.

Those two tips are given without any idea what is your use.. (both are kinda top in their price range)

Your description is a little vague. Do you need a router that has WiFi built in or is your WiFi separate from the router?

what i am planning to do is to put the mikrotik router as the top or main router where it will be the gateway of all my sub wifi routers and then configure pppoe and set bandwidth limit or queue on each sub wifi routers to 20Mbps each. Right now my current network setup is this, all the sub wifi routers is connected to the modem router of the ISP using several 8 and 16 port gigabit switches. I configured the network of the ISP modem router to 192.168.0.0 with gateway 192.168.0.1 and configured the sub wifi routers wan from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.50 while each sub wifi routers lan is 172.16.0.0.

I bought mikrotik rb750gr3 to try and test it, tried to talk to a mikrotik IT and he said that the rb750gr3 can't handle my current network setup due to my 600Mbps internet connection speed and the processor of rb750gr3 is low. He said that the rb750gr3 is best handling 100Mbps internet speed or throughput. In my case, he said that the ideal mikrotik router for my network setup are the mikrotik ccr models which has high processor can handle 1Gb internet speed or throughput. I already configured my rb750gr3 but i still haven't connected it because i am afraid that there will be problems. I don't know what to do, should i buy ccr models? please guide me.

hi,

best you should trust your consultant if you can't do it by yourself, we have multi gigs of internet terminated on CCR1036 (main router), our bras (pppoe-server) is separate from our main router doing nat, CCR is a great platform but still can fail if your network design is not sound.
