Load balancing

Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:13 pm

Apologies for the FAQ but my knowledge of the entire Mikrotik range is sketchy. My client currently has a Draytek 2860 connected to a single 100Mbps leased line. They've just had a second 100Mbps connection made live but the 2860 can't handle due WAN connections.

I'm thinking of replacing it with the RB4011iGS+RM which looks more than capable:

https://mikrotik.com/product/rb4011igs_rm

This has a quad core CPU running at 1400Mhz and 1GB RAM compared to the 2860 which has a single 600MHz CPU (maybe dual?) and only 128k of RAM.

Having programmed mobile failover on the haPs, I know RouterOS should be able to work with port 1 as WAN1 and port 2 as WAN2, load balancing across both lines.

Correct?

RB4011iGS+RM ist an amazing router !
You will have more then enough power to run 2x 100Mbits WAN's
Programming PCC will be the sames as for the haPs

For about the same price there is a new router the 5009!
Take a look at that one as well.

Thx for heads up - will check that out as well. Don't actually need many ports as there is already a giga PoE switch in the rack.

The 5009 is newer architecture and will be supported longer is my guess.
