Change DHCP ipv4 DNS

Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:26 pm

Hi guys and thanks in advance for your patience and understanding.

I have purchased recently a RB5009 router and installed yesterday, I have a PPPOE connection from the ISP in my country. When I first set-up the router I forgot to change the IP address from 192.168.88.1 to 192.168.1.1 and the DHCP range from 192.168.88.10-192.168.88.254 to 192.168.1.10-192.168.1.254. However the link was established and I got gigabit connection by the IP address range was of the type 192.168.88. ... vs what I wanted 192.168.1. .... Hence I reset the router's configuration and started again this time adding the correct DHCP range, PPPOE connected but surprise there was no internet connection. I checked with a Windows 10 laptop and I found out thet indeed the router was leasing an IP address of the format 192.168.1.200 but the field "DHCP IPV4 DNS" was showing the IP address of 192.168.88.1 so there was internet access for any device on the network. Again reset the router's configuration and start over this time I left the default DHCP address range of 192.168.88. ... and boom I got internet access for all the devices connected.

PLEASE HELP! How can I change the DHCP IPV4 DNS to 192.168.1.1 or something on the 192.168.1 ... if I want a DHCP range of 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.254?

Thanks!

IP->DHCP Server->Networks, open the only entry and there you have DNS Servers.

Thanks a lot! Knowing it yesterday would have saved me 2 nights of working to reconfigure the whole network for 192.168.88.xyz.

Quick tip, if you know some value, but don't know where it is, then export config:
/export file=yourconfig
And then you can find it in resulting yourconfig.rsc, which is regular text file. Structure is mostly the same as in WinBox.
