New Switch, Wrong Password?

Sun Jun 19, 2022 5:39 am

Hi all!

I just bought my first Mikrotik device, a CRS305-1G-4S+IN 10G switch. I logged in for the first time using Winbox and set the admin password and upgraded to the latest version of RouterOS (6.49.6 stable). It's working fine, and I can login using WinBox and my password without any issues. But...

If I try to connect to the router via a browser, all I get is a simple "Login" screen asking for a password. My password does not work here, and I cannot find ANY password that works on this screen. (See attached image for an example of what this screen looks like).

Is there some trick to getting into the Web interface of this device instead of having to use Winbox?

Thanks ahead of time for any help! It's really appreciated.

Probably you have assigned the IP of another device to the routerboard, use winbox and by MAC address change the IP...
Or check NAT rules if some redirect is present.

try MikroTik windows management application called WINBOX

https://mt.lv/winbox64

here the manual

https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Winbox

looks like you have ip address conflict so using winbox you can access using mac address

@chechito, why write twice the same thing, and you do not read at all the OP.
The user already know and use winbox:
It's working fine, and I can login using WinBox and my password without any issues

You were 100% correct in this! Sorry for the delayed reply.

I ended up having an unknown (to me) managed switch on my network that had been configured with the same IP I was assigning to the new CRS305 switch. I didn't install the other switch, and whomever did wasn't exactly documenting their changes correctly. Argh! But, I got it sorted, and the new Mikrotik switch is humming along nicely now.

Thank you rextended for your response on this. It's truly appreciated.

Have a GREAT day, and thanks again.

Your last line was correct chechito. It was an address conflict with another "not properly documented" switch on the network. Thank you for your assistance!

Take care for now, and thanks again.
