192.168.88.1 no longer accessible after RouterOS upgrade

Sat Nov 05, 2022 6:00 pm

Hardware: RB951G-2HnD

Worked for 9 years already w/o any (well almost) problems.
I've upgraded RouterOS to the latest stable 6.49.7
Before that, there was 6.47.7 as far as I remember (obviously cannot check it).

After the upgrade, I was able to log into the web interface of the router, but after a little while, it became inaccessible for configuration. Other things like WLAN, outboutd PPPoE - all work and I have Internet connection in the house.

SYMPTOMS:

When accessing 192.168.88.1, after long timeout period, I get an error message in the browser:
dial tcp 192.168.88.1:80: getsockopt: connection timed out

the ssh connection disconnects immediately with
Received disconnect from 192.168.88.1 port 22:3:
Disconnected from 192.168.88.1 port 22

And most strangely, I cannot reset the box. Whatever I do as per the instructions - unplug the power and plug it back with reset pressed - wait for 5/10/30 seconds - the result is the same, the box doesn't boot itself (there is no double-beep and no interfaces seems to be up - Ethernet light is on when connecting the cable, but my laptop can't obtain an IP and communicate).
If I unpower/power it back, the old config is back and everything is the same - WLAN is up, Internet active and so on.
Basically I can use it, but can't configure anymore.
Any advices are appreciated, because the only way I see now is to wait untill it dies (which might well be another 10 years) or ISP changes any configuration, so I can't use it anymore.

Thanks!

Thanks, I'll give it a try!
Very good that Mikrotiks have this flashing possibility.
Now I only have to find a WIndows laptop, and will get back with the results.

If you have mac os, then u can try install wine and run netinstall.exe
winbox works fine with wine

or cli version for linux https://download.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... 7.6.tar.gz

Re: 192.168.88.1 no longer accessible after RouterOS upgrade  [SOLVED]

First simple thing to try is to get WinBox and connect to MAC address (or even to IP address, if you didn't try if before, although that may have the same problem as web and SSH)..

So I found the solution...
I launched WInbox using Wine on a Linux laptop, and strangely enough, it connected!
(I used to think it uses the same HTTP endpoints just packaged into desktop app, but apparently it uses another port and completely another configuration interface, which was still working.)
I downgraded the OS to the 'long term' version 6.48.6, and the web interface is back again!
Though I would probably do just fine with Winbox too, I anyway wanted to check the upgrade was the root cause.
Now will wait until 7.x is stable.... or just give it a shot as is.

Thanks everyone for help!
