RouterOS on a Proliant DL360 G3 ?

Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:22 pm

Hello,

I want to deploy a system that will serve PPPoE connections (approx 600 users) and will be a firewall.
The server I want to use is a HP Proliant DL 360 G3 - Dual Xeon 2 X 2.8 Ghz/ 2GB ram
Do you find it suitable ?

Also I'll remove the SCSI disks and will boot from IDE flash. Do you see any problem about this ?

Thanks,
Adrian

I have great sucess using DL140s 2x Xeons.

Have not tried 360s.

You might try 360 with SATA.

It depends of amount of traffc you suppose to run through the firewall and its rules.
In my option this setup is able to manage cca 200Mbit constant throughput but again - it depends.
As many dynamic firewall rules (like dynamic addresslists etc) as many CPU and RAM consumption.
What purpose is this firewall supposed to serve?
cheers

Hi,

Thanks for your answers.
The firewall will be a basic one, at the moment I use a Cisco router that has reflexive access-lists in place.

thx,
Adrian
