AP Setup Problems.

Fri Jan 18, 2008 7:14 pm

1 X Omni Directional 900mhz
1 X XR9 Wireless Radio/8 port MiniPCI/PCI adapter
1 X x86 1.3Ghz based routeros system
12X RB133C3/XR9 Combo Client units

Configuration is as follows.

AP Configuration: G Mode

The AP is fed from a 10mbit dedicated connection Hardwired into the LAN port.
Created a Bridge interface while in AP Bridge mode.STP Enabled. Ether1 as only port.
Set to Dynamic WDS.
IP Address of the Bridge/AP is 192.168.200.20 /16 subnet
12 Client units connecting to AP Unit.
Average signal of -75

Client Side Config

Created Bridge. STP enabled. Ether1 and Wlan1 as the ports.
IP Address set 192.168.200.21-33 /16 subnet
Connections stay stable but speed varies from 18kbps -> 7mbps

seems the more clients I add the worse it gets. Any ideas guys?

Do research on RF. You really need to.

Start by switching to 5mhz spacing.

Up to about 10 clients I am perfectly fine, everyone stable around 5mbit with bursts up to 12mbit or so.
Problem really starts being noticeable at client 12/13 and exponentially worse with every device I add after that.
Does not only hurt the new user but all users suffer from the speed loss.
Shouldn't it only be the new user being slow if it is a problem with their installation?

Rumor has it there is enormous Canopy use in Canada. You won't survive unless you learn to work around the RF interference. Using these radios in "g" mode will do nothing but take you down.

Well here's the deal. With compression on you can push about 5megs aggregate on the SR9's at 5mhz. The nice side of 5mhz is you have a lot more flexibility to move around interference.

I've personally given up using the SR9/XR9 systems because they don't coexist well with Canopy but thats all I can say in the venue...
