Stopping or limiting PtP traffic like Bit Torrent

Sat May 10, 2008 9:19 am

This may be old hat to most folks, but I'm a newbie to MT and I've got a guy who is jamming up the works on one of my APs here with Bit Torrent. Can my RB532 be set up to stop it or slow it down so it doesn't cause problems? When he's on, ping times to Google go to 2000 ms, etc., the traffic graph looks like a comb with 3/4 of the teeth broken out, and everyone's service goes in the toilet. Thanks for any help.

You can block the P2P traffic from /ip firewall filter for perticular IP or Network

You can limit the P2P traffic from /Queue simple for Perticular IP or Network

Hi..

You can also mark the p2p traffic in /ip firewall mangle and then create a simple queue to just restrict bandwidth to p2p softwares only. This will not affect your http traffic.

Also, set max tx limits on the AP so he can't send much out.

Best to drop the data before it gets on your network.

Perhaps give him a call and ask him to stop seeding as it is damaging your network?
