User Manager/Hotspot Example doesn't work!

Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:57 am

Hi all,

I followed the steps according the "User Manager/Hotspot Example" but after that I got lost. Hotspot is running and everyone can log in. I also add all users in user-manager but I thought that user-manager should track the activities of the hotspot usage!? Is it radius that is not working? Please guide me trough this problem. Why is user-manager not taking over the hotspot activities?

Arjan

What kind of activities do you mean that User Manager should track from HotSpot ?
Make sure you have configured all the settings accordingly to the documentation guide, check that all users are added to User Manager.
Post the information you have in,
ip hotspot active print

So i use for user-manager and 10.5.50.1 and for radius server 127.0.0.1. I don't see any Radius with the users. But most inportant what should i supose to see? After open the browser? The User-manager screen or the HOTSPOT screen? Or do I have to configure it? Remove cookies in hotspot maybe? Any way: Here are my prints.

ip hotspot active print
Flags: R - radius, B - blocked
# USER ADDRESS UPTIME SESSION-TIME-LEFT IDLE-TIMEOUT
0 Bert 10.5.50.237 4h52m2s 4w1d6h35m49s
1 Arjan 10.5.50.252 1h3m15s

tool user-manager router print
Flags: X - disabled
0 subscriber=Arjan name="router1" ip-address=10.5.50.1 shared-secret="123456"
log=auth-ok,auth-fail,acct-ok,acct-fail

radius print
Flags: X - disabled
# SERVICE CALLED-ID DOMAIN ADDRESS SECRET
0 hotspot 127.0.0.1 123456

User Manager is the tool to manage HotSpot users.
Opening the browser you should see HotSpot login page,

For the HotSpot and User Manager on the same router, use this configuration example,
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/User_Mana ... ame_router

I do see the hotspot screen but no active users in user-manager.
ip hotspot active print
Flags: R - radius, B - blocked
 # USER ADDRESS UPTIME SESSION-TIME-LEFT IDLE-TIMEOUT
 0 Arjan 10.5.50.252 6m34s

Hi
I did some more research on the forum. I should see the inlog screen of hotspot. ok. UM suppose to deal with the users. (not with me) So I removed all users from hotspot. UM supose to regonize the users and account them. But after logout and login again the message "Radius Server not found" was shown.

So I think I have to change the IP addresses of radius and UM (127.0.0.1) into the inlog range of the user side like "10.5.50.1". Isn't it?

Yes, you should. The same configuration is shown on the documentation example.

I changed it to 10.5.50.1 but nothing. Still "Radius server not responding". I thought that i need to add 10.5.50.1 in the Walled Garden. I can ping the ip-address from my computer but still the "Radius server not responding" problem.

127.0.0.1 should be used for
/tool user-manager router
127.0.0.1 should be used for
/radius add
Just like described here, step by step,

Thanks sergejs,

It's working now. I used "/system reset" to go back to factory settings. After that i made my RB411 a DHCP client (ethernet1) connected to te satellite. Then I used the hotspot wizard and configured it on the ethernet2 port with default settings. My surprise was that it worked making a bridge the routing was good. I think it's because of the dhcp. Then I went through the example (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/User_Mana ... ame_router) and add also users in the UM.

After that everthing works fine!

127.0.0.1 should be used for

Just like described here, step by step,

That is the exact answer...

I changed both to 127.0.0.1 and it works!

Thank you again!

Thanks for the quick reply Sergejs!
